Rosewood marvels: Moller model #71 in paper cord

We finally finished weaving all the six chairs in this set

When we first started working on this chair, weaving usually takes about 6 hours, each chair.

Fortunately, we got the hang of it very quickly.

Now, it takes me about 3 hours and 15 minutes from start to finish.

That is actually really fast. Someone told me the Moller chair factory workers need about 3 hour per chair.

That is possible, especially if a few workers work together: each only works on one thing.

One could be responsible with the first section, the front to back pairs.

17 pairs, and 19 pairs front to back are both common.

Then the front wrap, it usually takes 39 feet of the paper cord. This could be done quickly if one has practiced enough.

The wrap srarts from the middle. 19 feet of the paper cord goes to the left and the other 19 goes to the right.

I try to maintain the same count of turns in each space. Usually 5, but 4 to 6 could be normal.

Then I would srart the main arwa weaving from right to left.

After about 12 pairs of weaving in the front, I stop and turn the chair around to work on the back wrap.

The back side is about 1 inch shorter, so it takes about 37 feet of paper cord to wrap.

Again, I would start in the middl with 18 1/2 feet of paper cord going left.

And then, the tricky part: to wrap the right side, I use one 18 feet plus 60 feet long cord, to finish wrapping the right side AND continue with the main surface weaving from the back, going again from right to left.

After about 12 pairs weaving, I stop and secure the rope.

Time to restart weaving from the front from where I left.

Eventually, the gap will be closed.

It maybe daring and risky for beginners. But as long as you count and meaure, to make sure there are 47 pairs of weaving on the main seat surface, the gap always closes correctly.

Please inquire for the availability of this set of six. They are truly a marvel of design and execution.
