We have seen a lot of questions asking about how to restore and reupholster the backs of the Erik Buch dining chairs.
We can’t show you all our secrets, but most are here.
We hand stitch the backs of Erik Buch Model #49 and Model #50

Removing the backside, using heavy duty knife. Always use caution. Go slow and do not force the knife. Just follow the curve and saw the way through.Separated back backing from the backboard.
The paperboard backing, is not to be reused. The paperboard gives the smooth look on the back side of the seat back. We use new paper board to cut out new ones.
The paper board in every chair we have restored is new. Newly had cut.
The original backs have one or two pieces original wool cutoffs as coushioning material between the paper board and the board.The wool fabrics shows how beautiful and nice it was/is.Erik Buch seat board, there is no secret in removing the staples, one by one is the only answer.
All the staples are hand removed. ALL of them.

The back side of the backs have to be skillfully attached.
We have seen different variations.
Metal clips are common.
I also encountered lead metal strips (belts) to function as the metal clips to hold the backs in place.

We will continue to hand stitch the backs. We like the result very much. Our customers have not complained either, which is a great thing. 😀
